Winter Novices Hurdle
This season has appeared to have been a troubled one for Seven Barrows but one thing that has remained is that Nicky Henderson's novice hurdlers are devilishly tough to pass.
The highlight on the card was the Winter Novices hurdle and it featured a short price favourite in Vyta Du Roc. Ridden by Barry Geraghty he didn't appear to be going anywhere fast turning into the straight, however the Sandown hill has always been a great leveller and when the early exertions of Tara Point started to take their toll he was on hand to sweep past before holding the rallying Shantou Bob who flashed home down the outside by a diminishing nose.
The margin was that close neither went into the winners circle, and as punters walked past Mr Henderson on the way to the winners enclosure he even said that he'd have been "happy to share it". Looking at the ride Barry Geraghty gave the winner he was in no mood for sharing anything.
In the other races on the card the imposing Bivouac made a winning debut appearance in the UK and Sam Twiston-Davies judged the it to perfection on As Du Me who barely knew he'd been in a race until the final furlong.
