Moore Goes Mad at Sandown
The crowds filled the Esher Venue for the Sandown Xmas festival, and there was a buzz around the course in anticipation for a cracker to start the run up to Xmas in the world of National Hunt racing.
The Betfair Tingle Creek had promised so much earlier in the week with Un Des Sceaux, Sprinter Sacre and Simonsig amongst the entries, only to be denied the presence of any of them. This didn't however dampen anyone's enthusiasm for the race, if anything it created a competitve showpiece.
Sire De Grugy was the former Champion Chaser on show but needed to rediscover some form following a couple of disappointing runs, whereas Special Tiara was returning to the scene of his victory in the Celebration Chase over course and distance.
They were however usurped at the head of the market by Vibrato Valtat who had returned to action this season with a sparkling victory in the Haldon Gold Cup.
In the race itself Sire De Grugy and Special Tiara took the fight to each other from some way out, with the improved jumping of Sire De Grugy taking him to a two length lead over the famous railway fences that Tingle Creek had made so famous. Ove rthe pond and Speical Tiara and Vibrato Valtat started to stalk. Between the last two Vibrato Valtat faded and approaching the last momentum seemed to be with Special Tiara in second who was closing with every stride.
Over the last and drama struck as Sire De Grugy jumped straight across Special Tiara baulking his rival in the process and asking Jamie Moore to perform miracles that may have been to much for lesser mortals to keep the partnership intact.
The pair gathered themselves up for one last surge up the hill, and try as he may Noel Fehily couldnt quite conjure enough to get any closer than the hind quarters of the resolute Sire De Grugy..
Only a couple of weeks since the quotes had been "he is not as good as he was" and he had returned to the summit of two mile chasing, as winner of the Betfair Tingle Creek !
Elsewhere on the card Gary Moore had gone Mad with the aptly named Ar MAd taking the Grade One novice chase by a massive margin and Flute Bowl her rivals a merry dance in the mares handicap hurdle, giving him a sublime treble for the second day running !
HAPPY XMAS Team Moore !
