Tingle Creek was a bit of a freak round Sandown Park and it was very much his track. The Esher track plays host once again to the Grade One run in his name tomorrow and a small but select field have been declared. Yes there are some of the star attractions missing such as Un Des Sceaux and Sprinter Sacre, plus their last minute replacement Simonsig has fallen by the wayside, leaving it with the feel of a competitive but possibly not top class renewal.
Vibrato Valtat has assumed the mantle at the head of the market following an impressive seasonal reappearance at Exeter, where he readily brushed aside the reopposing Third Intention and the once Champion Chaser Sire De Grugy, albiet in receipt of 3lb and 10lb respectively.
That day Third Intention ran his usual honest race, but Sire De Grugy was once again risky at his fences and round Sandown that is not something that you can afford to be.
Special Tiara however is far from a sketchy jumper and this Grade One winner has form in the book against his rivals that says he is going to be very hard to beat indeed.
The Celebration Chase at the backend of last season is the main piece of form to look at, here he beat Mr Mole, Somersby and Vibrato Valtat ( who was badly hampered early in the race) with some authority and with his versatility regarding ground and how he can be ridden he must hold every chance.
