Postponed's Late Rally
King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2015 started off all about one horse. Following a deulgue of rain on Friday the Investec Derby winner Golden Horn's participation had been put in doubt, and come about 1pm the fears of those that had travelled to Ascot to see him were realised... He was declared a non runner.
This left a good field to go to post, but far from spectacular. On paper there was the winner of a Hardwicke, An "Ascot Derby", The winner of the QIPCO fillies and mares, last seasons classic placed horses as well as a Great Votiguer winner, but it was lacking the lustre of Golden Horn's presence.
Romsdal made the early running and went a good gallop out in front with Snow Sky and Postponed sitting just in behind him. Travelling out of Swinley Bottom Clever Cookie started to feel the pinch as he was niggled along at the rear of the field proceeded by the patiently ridden Eagle Top.
Turning into the home straight and Postponed set sail for home, kicking clear before the sweeping run of Eagle Top was unleashed by Frankie. It looked like a winning effort to, until the final strides where displaying the courage of a lion Postponed battled back late to snatch he spoils in the shadows of the post under Andre Atzeni ... EPIC !!
