Boxing Day - 26th December 2014
The King George is run on Boxing Day every year and usually crowns the seasons champion staying chaser. In recent times that mantle has fallen to the undisputed champion Kauto Star who took the King George on no less than five occasions culminating in a defeat of the previous years successor Long Run.
This year he appears to have passed the baton to his younger stablemate Siliniaco Conti, whose precision fencing and relentless galloping has made him impossible to deny for the past two years.
Also run at the meeting is the race for the young pretenders to the King George Crown. Named this season for the first time as The Kauto Star Novices Chase ( formerly known as The Feltham ) it was won by Coneygree, an exciting young horse trained by Mark Bradstock and ridden by Nico De Boinville. He jumped and galloped his rivals into the ground passing the post 40 lengths clear of his nearest pursuer.
Completing the set of Grade One races is the Christmas Hurdle, dominated in recent times by messors Henderson and McCoy this year victory went to a possible superstar in the shape of Faugheen. Already a short price for the Champion hurdle he stepped up ... and think from the pictures its not hard to see why he won so impressively.
