Queen Reigns Supreme
Sylvester De Sousa is rattling along in the jockeys chamionship and on the first day of the Ebor Festival he showed exactly why he is flying so high with a brilliant ride on the Jeff Smith owned Arabian Queen.
Golden Horn was the short priced favourite and deservedly so after winning The Derby this year and following that with a breathtaking win in the Coral Eclipse at Sandown. However there was a doubt about the groound after heavy rain the day before.
In the straight the pacemaker had faded away but SDS had used it to his benefit perfectly, settling his filly Arabian Queen in behind him he kicked, a move that Frankie Dettori and Golden Horn had no answer to on this ground. Slowly but surely Frankie was getting there and the Knavesmire crowd almost held their breath in the final strides, but she had done enough to deny Golden Horn a place in immortality and end his unbeaten run.
Elsewhere on the card Storm the Stars battled strongly to deny the persisitent challenge of Bondi Beach and Jack Garrity continued his rise through the ranks by winning the concluding nursery in good style
