"He's finished", "too old", "he's lost it" were some of the quotes that have been said about Frankie Dettori in recent times and how wrong can they be.
This season has seen him team up with Mr John Gosden as well as his UK retainer for Al Shaqab racing, and what a success that is proving to be. A treble at Newbury albeit for differing trainers has now in less than a week been followed by a four timer that showed so many differing qualities.
Ladies and Gents, this was a four timer that was so understated it was pure class, from timing the run to catch the breakaway leader in the first. Stalking the pace on western hymn before dominating it on Brandybend. It was all there... then along came a horse who looks like he could be right out of the top drawer.
Jack Hobbs had made his debut at Wolverhampton and got into a handicap off of a rating of 85. Walking round the paddock he looked head and shoulders above everything else and in the race it was no exception. Sitting on the leaders quarters it was all over in a matter of strides, and Frankie had the luxury of checking his style on the big screen !
On his return Frankie laughed to John Gosden and said "I think I ruined his handicap mark" ....Wherever he goes next he is one exciting colt !!
