3000 Not Out
Richard Johnson once again showed why he is going to be he new champion with a power packed ride upon Rock The Kasbah and more leisurely but more importantly Duke Des Champs, who provided him with his 3000th jumps winner.
Congratulations Richard !!!!!
Willie Mullins is now as short as Evens for the trainers title as another successful raid was completed at Ascot.
Firsrt out was the super mare Vroum Vroum Mag. Settled in the rear early she made smooth progress through the field without coming off of the bridle and was sent on after the last for a comfortable success. On paper though it was an uninspiring performance as the second and third were 33/1 and 40/1 respectively. But as they say you can only beat what is put infront of you and there were some solid performers toiling in her wake here.
Then came the exciting Un De Sceaux, a horse that Ruby Walsh described as thrilling to ride, this must have been equally so. Setting off three lengths to the good he went some gallop out in front and made it look like he was suantering along. As he approached two out it was relentless and he was not off of the bridle as previous champion and recent Tingle Creek winner Sire De Grugy tried to make headway in behind.
Behind these Vibrato Valtat was said to have been flat out all the way and he is normally a stalker and is a Grade One winning novice himself, the sting was simply dragged out of them as "a star in the ascendency" won pretty much as he liked.
